Last Saturday morning we stopped for morning tea at Mag Dam Recreation Reserve at Snake Valley. Over the last few years the local landcare group and others have been doing gorse removal and tree planting in the area to enhance the wetland.
While the water level is down a bit in the half hour we were there we saw a pied cormorant, little black cormorants, pacific black ducks, a pelican, coots, magpies, a swan, purple swamphen, cattle egret, masked lapwing, little ravens, little corellas, hoary grebe, white-faced heron and a royal spoonbill.
On the way out on the main road we noticed a sign for the Snake Valley Observatory. A search of the internet indicates the group was established in 2005 and membership of the Snake Valley Astronomical Society is open to people with an interest in any form of astronomy.
