Mud-Dauber Wasp

Mud-dauber wasp at work

Sometimes in a gap in the wall or even in a coat hanging up outside, we have come across a small collection of mud and spiders.

The mud dauber wasp builds a series of cells from mud, fills them with a paralysed insect or spider and then lays her eggs in them.

This photo was taken of a wasp craping away on the ground perhaps getting ready to build its own version of a mud brick house.
