Lake Hindmarsh comes alive

Lake Hindmarsh in October

In October we visited Lake Hindmarsh, north of Nhill. It is Victoria’s largest natural freshwater lake and is filled by the Wimmera River. It has been dry for many years and there have been great hopes that it would fill and flow into Outlet Creek onto Lake Albacutya.

It was about 8o percent full so unless there are big rains over summer that is not likely to happen. The vegetation beside the lake near the camping area at Four Mile Beach was a colourful mix of yellow wattles and hot pink pigface.
