Stalked Puffball fungi

Recently seen in the Wombat forest near Korweinguboora were some stalked puffball fungi, the Common Prettymouth Calostoma fuscum. The 20mm wide dark brown spore sac is supported on a stem up to 100mm tall. White spores are puffed by raindrops from the star-like red mouth on top of the spore sac. The red mouth fades with age.
